PR Bond or Personal Recognizance Bond

The cheapest and best option when it comes to a bond is the PR bond; it is also one of the best alternative ways to be released from jail. The type of bail allows the defendant to be released without having proper payment. If the court assesses that this arrestee is, in fact, not a flight risk and has little to none criminal history, they will most often be qualified for a PR bond.

This is a great way to save money throughout the very pricey legal process. Although PR bonds do not require any money upfront, the defendant must pay an administrative fee for $40 or 3% of the bond amount to Pretrial services after seven days of being released. If the defendant fails to appear in court, they will be personally responsible for the bond’s entire amount. Therefore, if needed, this form of bail will not be permitted in the future.

The Process

Once a person is detained, the pretrial services division will take care of the defendant’s initial interview to learn their personal information. Therefore, if you are arrested, it is significant that you give your pretrial officer your personal info to see if you are qualified. While you have the right to decline this interview, it is recommended that you participate.

The following individuals may qualify based on some of these factors, which include but are not limited to:

  1. Whether the judge feels as if the defendant is a flight risk or no.
  2. If the case is violent or non-violent
  3. The defendant’s criminal history
  4. Motion for personal recognizance bond or bond reduction
