Early Voting & Voter Registration in Harris County

If you want to help shape the city’s criminal justice laws, make sure you vote!

Make Sure You’re Registered

The first step to participating in the election is ensuring you’re registered to vote. This year’s registration deadline is October 11th, 2022, which is the final day to either register in person or send in a postmarked registration form by mail. You need to update your voter registration if you have recently moved to a new address, changed your name, or want to change your party affiliation.

Luckily, if you have registered in the past and need to update the name or address on your voter registration, you can usually make these changes over the phone or online. This makes updating your information much more effortless than mailing it in a set of physical forms.

Of course, before you can register, you must make sure you’re actually eligible to vote. Several laws in Texas govern the voting rights of people charged with felony convictions. For example, people who are currently incarcerated on a felony conviction are not eligible to vote. Have you been detained recently and need to check if you can vote in this election? Early Voting

Voting early is an excellent option for anyone who wants to go ahead and submit their vote or won’t be able to vote on Election Day for any reason. Early voting by personal appearance begins on October 24th, 2022, this year and ends on November 4th, 2022.

Did you know that if you participate in early voting, you’re allowed to vote at ANY early voting location as long as it’s in your county of residence? Harris County has several polling locations for early voting.

Anyone may participate in early in-person voting, but if you would like to vote early by mail, there are a few conditions you must meet to request a ballot:

  • If you will not be in your county both during early voting hours and on Election Day
  • If you are considered sick or disabled
  • If you are likely to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day
  • If you will be 65 years of age or older on Election Day
  • If you are confined in jail or Involuntary Civil Commitment
